                                                The Cultural Association

    Arti Veneziane Associazione Culturale

This association was founded in to enable interested tourists who speak English to participate in the culture of Venice during their stay in Venice.

Members of the association are entitled to the walks mentioned on the other pages (there are some restrictions). In addition, we sponsor other cultural events, such as literary walks, excursions, lectures  and social evenings. You will receive an membership card and we are planning an website newsletter which has been delayed but will be available to members during 2006.

The programme for 2006 is as follows:

Spring: Outing by boat in April to San Francesco del Deserto, where, in 1220, St. Francis quieted the birds so he could pray.  Last year's outing was cancelled due to inclement weather.

Summer: Excursion to Torcello. Ruskin readings in the Basilica and in the bell tower, followed by lunch at the Throne of Attila restaurant.

Autumn: Cooking with Laurie Graham, whose article on Venetian food appeared in Bon Appetit Magazine, May 2005.

Winter: In January 2007, the Arti Veneziane Associazione Culturale is sponsoring a full fledged British pantomime stage musical in English. Actors and musicians will be Venetian residents. The venue is the university theatre at Santa Margherita. There will be a retiring collection to aid in rebuilding the roof of St George's Anglican Church in Venice. Dates: Three performances:

11 January (two) , 12 January (one).

Thanks to Professore Marra of The Universitą  C'a Foscari English Department for allowing use of the venue.

Tour of the relics in Venice: This is a repeat of last year's event. A tour of some of the early (undivided Church) saints whose remains are in Venice (approximately 35 saints), including S. Zaccaria, S, Anathasios, S. Mark, S. Stephen, S. Lucia, S. John the Almsgiver, Ss Damian and Cosmas. Plus a talk on the role of relics in the Church. See www.orthodoxvenice.org for details.
